We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

PLANNING FOR OUR PHOTOSTORIES!

Sometimes when you start something new, it can be scary because you don't know what you need, where to be, what to do or how to do it!
But when you know the routines, then it's easy.
So this term, we have been learning how to 'DO' school... to learn the routines so we can be CONFIDENT and CAPABLE LEARNERS.
We have decided to make PHOTOSTORIES to explain our routines.
Before we can make our Photo
Stories, we have to know what we are doing.
WE HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN!
Here's the PROCEDURE we followed.

1. We listed all our routines.
2. We formed groups of 3 and chose a routine. Each group had a 'Team Leader'.

3. We discussed what the routine looked like. We listened to each other and shared ideas. We took turns and used words like: "That's a good idea" and "What do you think?"

4. We drew up a PLAN showing ALL the STEPS in the routine.

Now we know what photos to take for each PHOTOSTORY and what ORDER to put them in.

Mrs M said each group demonstrated GREAT TEAMWORK.
WE WERE ALL LEADERS AND COLLABORATORS!

Hi 1M gems,
Learning about, making plans, following procedures and teamwork is very important for school. Did you know that it is also important to know those things for work. I use those skills every day at my work.

Great work 1M gems

Hi 1m gems
here are two poems about our number of the week.
Love Billee-Jane

Poem 1
Seven is sporty,
Seven is sleek,
Seven is the number,
Of the week.

Poem 2
Seven little mice running through the fields,
Seven kangaroo's hopping in the hills,
Seven magical fairies dancing in my yard,
Make a rhyme with number seven,
it's not very hard.

Billee-Jane:

Love the Seven Poems. You'd love my "Seven Sailing Sisters" poem.

I particularly like the way you didn't feel restricted to rhyming "seven" with anything. Good girl! Lots of people get stuck on what they think they SHOULD do. You got creative!

Did you know you used an actual POETIC TECHNIQUE here? (A technique is a tool, just like a hammer is a tool for a carpenter.)

It's called parallelism. (Parallel lines are lines that lie side by side, and never cross.)

The way you repeat seven -- that's something very fancy, experienced posts do. Congrats!

Alistair -- love the poem -- but since I don't surf, I don't know what leg cords are.

Don't let that ever stop you from using a term in a poem. Better to get people curious! Like me!

p.s. - will we be able to figure out a way for me to peek at these photo stories? They sound fascinating!
