We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

DAN THE FLYING MAN'S MANLY ADVENTURES

This week we read 'DAN THE FLYING MAN'. We read the story OVER and OVER because we enjoyed it so much. (this is one of Mrs M's son Daniel's favourite stories and he's nearly 20!)
We also investigated words that tell POSITION and LOCATION, like OVER.
These are the words we thought of:
on, in, off, out, beside, in front, behind, under, back, front, inside, up, down, backwards, forwards, sideways, left, right, through, around, across, along, above, below, on top, top, bottom

Then we imagined: What if 'DAN' came to MANLY?
What would he fly over? under? through?...

Here's our story of DAN THE FLYING MAN'S MANLY ADVENTURES.
I am Dan the Flying Man,
catch me, catch me,
if you can!
over islands,
over the pool,
under the flying-fox,
over our school.
Over mountains,
over beaches,
over the library,
(Do you know what goes here?
Clue: it rhymes with 'beaches')
All the children ran and ran,
They didn't catch Dan, the Flying Man.

What else could 'DAN' fly over, under, around, through......?
There's plenty more for him to SEE and DO!

OUR 'JIGAREE' STORIES

We have been reading 'The Jigaree' in class. There are seven words from our Word Wall that are in the Jigaree story - I, can, see, a, it, is and me. We enjoyed 'The Jigaree' so much that we thought we could 'innovate' on this story. That means we could use the pattern of the words in this story to help us write our own stories.

Here is Johanna's story:

I can see the rain
It is pouring on me.
Pouring here,
Pouring there,
Rain is pouring everywhere.

Here is Bryce's story:

I can see a yellow bin
It is filled with rubbish..
Rubbish here
Rubbish there
Bins filled with rubbish everywhere.

Here is Laura's story:

I can see the pink flower
It is wet in the rain
Wet here
Wet there
Flowers are wet everywhere.

Here is Brooke's story:

I can see a plant
It is moving in the rain
Moving here
Moving there
Plants are moving everywhere.

Here is Ben's story:

I can see the raindrops

Dripping from the sail
Raindrops here
Raindrops there
Raindrops dripping everywhere.
