We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

CALLUM'S WRITING TIPS #1

When you are writing
and you need to know how to spell a word, think where the word could be around the room.
Today I needed the word 'cake' and I remembered that it was on the blog.
So don't forget to look at the blog when you need a word...it might be there!

WRITING WIZARDS

We couldn't wait to get back to school
and write about all the exciting things
we did on the holidays.

Mrs M said we have been 'WRITING WIZARDS' this week.

Here are some of the 'MAGIC' things we have been doing.

We have been 're-reading' to make sure that our writing makes sense. We are remembering where we can find words we need .... sometimes they're even on the blog! Some of us are using a 'SPACEMAN'-
to help us remember to put 'spaces' between words. Others of us are putting 'TRAFFIC LIGHTS' on our page to help us start writing in the correct spot and to write from LEFT to RIGHT.

Keep watching for more of our 'MAGIC' writing, coming soon.

CALLUM'S HOLIDAY NEWS!

Hi Mrs M and 1M.

I have had a wonderful holiday. I went to Townsville to visit some friends. We went on an aeroplane. It was fun. The Easter Bunny found us even though we weren't at home. He sent us on a Easter Egg Hunt. I found my eggs in the Linen Cupboard. Because it was so hot, my Dad took us to the water park where there is a big water bucket that fills up and spills down over everybody. We also went to the Anzac Memorial Park in Townsville. It was really interesting. On the way home, the plane had some problems with the bags, so an Air Hostess took my brother and I to meet the pilots. Cool!!!!
See you all next week,
Love Callum

LOOK WHAT WE'VE GOT TO SHOW

We have had lots of INTERESTING things brought in for TALK TIME lately. Here are some of our favourites.

Alistair said, "This is my pet fish.
He is a Goldfish. His name is Lachie.
That's my Dad's name too!

Every time I feed him, he comes right up to the top of the tank and gobbles it right up."

Sophia said, " These are 'lamb bones'. They were left over from the lamb we had for dinner. Mum washed and cleaned them. I don't know what part of the lamb they came from. Can you figure it out?

Johanna said, " My Granny's neighbour found this snake skin. It's from a PYTHON. They found it in their backyard. When my Granny first gave it to me, I was a bit scared! The snake got TOO big for it's skin, so it slid out and it had a new layer underneath. It keeps making new skin every time it gets BIGGER!

Emily said, " I have two things to show. This is part of a horse's hoof. I found it when I went to horseriding. It's like a piece of toenail."

"This is a little seahorse that my uncle caught when he went fishing. He was trying to catch a fish but got the seahorse. It's very tiny and feels hard."

Max said, " My grandma gave me these pictures. The 'dinosaur' was made by tearing up little bits of coloured paper and gluing them onto the picture.
The fish is a 'sand' picture. You put glue on the picture and sprinkle coloured sand over it."
This is the 'hand' I took to the 'Broncos' game. I waved it when the Broncos scored. They played the 'Cowboys' and they lost.

Jarvis said, " This is a mosquitofish. It is a pest in Australia. It eats the the baby mosquitoes and other insects.

Billee-Jane said, " I did these drawings. My Mum is teaching me to draw.

Matthew said, " I wear this shirt at football. It is my training shirt. I wear another shirt when i play and I get that at the game. My shorts are blue too. I play for the Wynnum Bugs."

Callum said, " My brother found this seed pod when he went on his excursion to St Helena Island. You can see it had 5 seeds in it. They were very big seeds.
THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE INCREDIBLE AND AMAZING THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN TO SHARE.
WE HAVE LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT EACH OTHER AND OUR WORLD, HOW THINGS WORK AND HOW TO DO THINGS.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING INTO SHARE AT YOUR NEXT TALK TIME?

This post is brought to you by the number '5'!

16 days ago, Elizabeth, from INKLESS TALES, left a poem for us on our post 'ALL ABOUT 5'. It was a poem about the number '5' and we were the first to read it!

The poem did not have a title and Elizabeth asked for our suggestions. Here are suggested titles we left as comments:

WE WONDER IF ELIZABETH WILL USE ANY OF OUR SUGGESTIONS?
