We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

OUR RESPONSE TO JOHANNA'S QUESTION

Johanna asked a question about our new friends in Canada.
She asked:
Are they in the English or the French speaking part?
We didn't know, so we 'googled' it and we found out
they speak English.
The French speaking part is on the east side and the children in Moose Jaw are more in the middle.

At the mass on Friday we saw Fr Des doing the mass.
The priest wears a stole around his neck. Fr Des
wore a green one.

OUR LATEST LEARNING

Today we learnt how to use the spellcheck when we are doing a post.
It is on the toolbar and it looks like a tick with ABC on it
We clicked on it and it locates the words that are the wrong spelling.

They come up yellow. We clicked on the yellow words and they came up with a list of the words it could be. We hope we chose the right spelling.

SJV DAY

Last week Mrs M was sick. She was sick for four days.

She mist out on cake for SJV Day.

We went to the Church for a mass and Fr Des was there.

We went to the oval to celebrate and have the SJV Day cake.

The icing was blue and white because our school colours are blue and white. It was yummy.

A VOLCANO FOR NEWS???

YES!
Johanna did bring in a VOLCANO for 'TALK TIME'... a VOLCANO
she had made! Her interest in VOLCANOES came from seeing them in
GOOGLE EARTH.
Johanna explained how she made the model of the VOLCANO.
The red alfoil strips represent the lava.
Johanna also showed how some people, who live near a VOLCANO, have to run to safety when the VOLCANO erupts.

If you want to learn more about VOLCANOES, click on Johanna's.

HORSES ARE CLEVER

Horses are my favourite animal because if your car is broken down you can ride a horse, like I am.
I've seen horses gallop and jump over fences and I've seen them stand up on their back legs.
Johanna

JOHANNA! YOU TOO HAVE JOINED IN THE CONVERSATION AND SHOWN HOW EASY IT IS TO GET YOUR POST UP OUTSIDE OF 'SCHOOL' TIME. MRS M :>)

LOOK WHAT WE'VE GOT TO SHOW

We have had lots of INTERESTING things brought in for TALK TIME lately. Here are some of our favourites.

Alistair said, "This is my pet fish.
He is a Goldfish. His name is Lachie.
That's my Dad's name too!

Every time I feed him, he comes right up to the top of the tank and gobbles it right up."

Sophia said, " These are 'lamb bones'. They were left over from the lamb we had for dinner. Mum washed and cleaned them. I don't know what part of the lamb they came from. Can you figure it out?

Johanna said, " My Granny's neighbour found this snake skin. It's from a PYTHON. They found it in their backyard. When my Granny first gave it to me, I was a bit scared! The snake got TOO big for it's skin, so it slid out and it had a new layer underneath. It keeps making new skin every time it gets BIGGER!

Emily said, " I have two things to show. This is part of a horse's hoof. I found it when I went to horseriding. It's like a piece of toenail."

"This is a little seahorse that my uncle caught when he went fishing. He was trying to catch a fish but got the seahorse. It's very tiny and feels hard."

Max said, " My grandma gave me these pictures. The 'dinosaur' was made by tearing up little bits of coloured paper and gluing them onto the picture.
The fish is a 'sand' picture. You put glue on the picture and sprinkle coloured sand over it."
This is the 'hand' I took to the 'Broncos' game. I waved it when the Broncos scored. They played the 'Cowboys' and they lost.

Jarvis said, " This is a mosquitofish. It is a pest in Australia. It eats the the baby mosquitoes and other insects.

Billee-Jane said, " I did these drawings. My Mum is teaching me to draw.

Matthew said, " I wear this shirt at football. It is my training shirt. I wear another shirt when i play and I get that at the game. My shorts are blue too. I play for the Wynnum Bugs."

Callum said, " My brother found this seed pod when he went on his excursion to St Helena Island. You can see it had 5 seeds in it. They were very big seeds.
THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE INCREDIBLE AND AMAZING THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN TO SHARE.
WE HAVE LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT EACH OTHER AND OUR WORLD, HOW THINGS WORK AND HOW TO DO THINGS.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING INTO SHARE AT YOUR NEXT TALK TIME?
LEAVE A CLUE IN A COMMENT! :>)

NUMBER 5 PICS FOR ELIZABETH

This post is brought to you by the number '5'!

16 days ago, Elizabeth, from INKLESS TALES, left a poem for us on our post 'ALL ABOUT 5'. It was a poem about the number '5' and we were the first to read it!

The poem did not have a title and Elizabeth asked for our suggestions. Here are suggested titles we left as comments:
* FAVOURITE FIVE from Lauren
* FABULOUS FIVE from Ben
* SUPER FIVE from Talia
* FIVE PEOPLE HAVING A PICNIC from Callum
* MY FAVOURITE NUMBER IS '5' from Patrick
* PERFECT FIVE from Johanna
* 6 IS NOT MY FAVOURITE NUMBER from Jarvis' Dad
WE WONDER IF ELIZABETH WILL USE ANY OF OUR SUGGESTIONS?

We have also been busy drawing pictures about '5'.

Here are some that have been completed.

'FIVE toes in sneakered feet' by Emily
'FIVE days at school' by Matthew'FIVE windows in my house" by Courtney
