We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

ALISTAIR'S 3D FIND!

Alistair EMAILED in this picture of a cushion.
It is shaped like a RECTANGULAR PRISM.
This cushion is also shaped like another 3D shape we explored today.
Can you name that shape? Leave your answer in a comment!
(CLUE: it's the same shape as Lachlan's pencil container)

WELL DONE, ALISTAIR!!

DON'T FORGET, YOU TOO CAN DO JUST AS ALISTAIR HAS.

TAKE OUT THE CAMERA AND SNAP PHOTOS OF OBJECTS SHAPED LIKE

RECTANGULAR PRISMS AND EMAIL THEM TO 1mgems@gmail.com

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT FIND!

JACOB'S 'GOOGLE EARTH' FIND

Hi everyone in 1 M! I found these places on Google Earth. Southbank is one my favourite parks and I really like the big buildings in the city.

Have you checked out
'GOOGLE
EARTH' lately?
What are some of your favourite places in our city?
Email in your pictures to 1mgems@gmail.com and we'll share them on our blog!

Jarvis broke new ground today with his TALK TIME on
EARTHQUAKES.

Like always, he was VERY well prepared and had LOTS to tell.

First he showed us his INTRODUCTION that he had created on the computer. He told us how he used different colours and put his title in a TEXT BOX.
Next Jarvis showed us his book about EARTHQUAKES.
We heard about what an earthquake is
and saw pictures that showed how earthquakes happen and the damage they cause.
(Click on the picture of the EARTHQUAKE book to learn more about EARTHQUAKES)
Then Jarvis took us to the computer so we could look at a website that shows where EARTHQUAKES are happening around the world.

Jarvis explained how to READ the map.
The YELLOW circles showed where EARTHQUAKES had occurred in the last 2 weeks, the ORANGE circles showed EARTHQUAKES that happened yesterday and the RED circles showed EARTHQUAKES that had happened TODAY!
IF YOU CLICK ON THE ABOVE PICTURE YOU TOO CAN SEE WHERE EARTHQUAKES ARE HAPPENING IN OUR WORLD.

HORSES ARE CLEVER

Horses are my favourite animal because if your car is broken down you can ride a horse, like I am.
I've seen horses gallop and jump over fences and I've seen them stand up on their back legs.

JOHANNA! YOU TOO HAVE JOINED IN THE CONVERSATION AND SHOWN HOW EASY IT IS TO GET YOUR POST UP OUTSIDE OF 'SCHOOL' TIME. MRS M :>)

CLEVER ANIMALS

I do know some CLEVER animals.

I think my cat Kayla is CLEVER because she can jump down off very high trees. She also can climb on the shed without falling off and hurting herself.

I think that Dolphins are SMART because they know how to have fun like these ones surfing.

Jarvis

(JARVIS, YOU ARE

YET AGAIN, YOU HAVE ENGAGED IN A CONVERSATION ON OUR BLOG BY EMAILING IN YOUR POST... AND ON THE WEEKEND TOO! THAT'S WHAT BLOGGING'S ALL ABOUT!
