We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

MORE ALLITERATION

Jacob brought in his book
ANIMALIA
by Graeme Base.

He had read it many times,
but had never known before

this week, that it was written
using ALLITERATION.

We liked the 'r' page.
Richly robed rhinocerouses
riding ricketty rickshaws.
Be like Jacob, 1M. Be on the 'lookout' for 'ALLITERATION' as you are reading and if you find it being used, bring in the book to share.

JARVIS AND JOHANNA'S TOOTH TALE!

When Jarvis bit into his hotdog today, his wobbly tooth fell out!

He thought he had swallowed it, but luckily he found it in his hotdog.

While Jarvis went to the office to get the 'special envelope' for the Tooth Fairy, Johanna came up
with this poem.
8 little teeth
in the mouth
One fell out
and it said
"Ouch!"
Another fell out
and said "Ouch!"
Now there are 6 teeth
in the mouth.

AMAZING 1M - YOU'RE WORKING EVEN DURING LUNCH!

JACOB'S RAD 'R' POEM

Jacob made a number of attempts yesterday to write a poem using 'alliteration'.
He started many times, but found it hard.
Did he say...

NO!!!

Today he started again, with a new idea.
He asked for advice,
He PERSEVERED...
and he 'got it'!

Rockets,
rolling round round-a-bouts,
rumbling,
racing rapidly.

Jacob proved that with PATIENCE and PERSEVERANCE you CAN do it!
And all the ones he started.... he's now going back to finish!

ALLITERATION - WE KNOW ABOUT THAT!

Last Tuesday, after being AMAZED by our poems, Elizabeth from INKLESS TALES, introduced us to 'alliteration' - using the same 'consonant' sound over and over.

She had seen some of our 'title' ideas for Bryce's poem, like 'Five Firemen Friends Fighting Fires in Five Seconds Flat' and challenged us to have a go at writing poems using 'alliteration'.
So on Friday, when we went to the library, and Mrs O shared Kim Toft's book 'A Sea of Words'
with us, we knew why this book was different - and it wasn't just because it was signed by the author and it had colourful pictures!

It was because Kim Toft had used
'alliteration'!

We've decided that if Kim Toft can and Elizabeth and Mrs M say we can, then we CAN give 'alliteration' a go.

WATCH OUT FOR OUR ATTEMPTS WITH 'R' WORDS!

IF YOU GIVE 'ALLITERATION' A GO, WE'D LOVE TO SEE IT. SHARE YOUR CLEVER WORK WITH US IN A COMMENT :>)
