We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

MORE ALLITERATION

Jacob brought in his book
ANIMALIA
by Graeme Base.

He had read it many times,
but had never known before

this week, that it was written
using ALLITERATION.

We liked the 'r' page.
Richly robed rhinocerouses
riding ricketty rickshaws.
Be like Jacob, 1M. Be on the 'lookout' for 'ALLITERATION' as you are reading and if you find it being used, bring in the book to share.

OUR FIRST VISIT TO THE LIBRARY!

Today we had our first visit to the new library.

From our classroom, we have to walk along the pathway, past 1G and the Prep rooms, to get to the library.

When we got there, we couldn't see Mrs O, so we called out- "Mrs O, can we come in?"... but she wasn't there!

We saw our library box. We saw an 'igloo' ( we were allowed to sit in it two at a time when Mrs O arrived), but we still couldn't find Mrs O. So we found our own spot and curled up with a book.

At last, Mrs O arrived. She sat on the 'storyteller's seat' and showed us her 'storyteller's cloak'.
Then Mrs O showed us books by her favourite author - Anthony Browne.
We listened to 'WILLY THE WIMP' and enjoyed spotting the differences in 'CHANGES'.

We love the new library, even though it's not quite finished.
We can't wait until we can borrow!

1M, IF YOU WERE GOING TO BORROW AN ANTHONY BROWNE BOOK, WHICH BOX WOULD YOU FIND IT IN?

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

If you have already checked out the author Eric Carle's website you might know why we are painting tissue paper.

This is only the first step in the process. Do you know what we are doing?

LITERACY BLOCK - STORY FOCUS

This week, we are reading one of our favourite books - THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR by Eric Carle.

In one of our Literacy Block activities, we had to sequence pictures of the food the caterpillar ate in the right order.

As an extra challenge, we could also match labels for the days of the week to the food that was eaten on that day.

After lots of discussion, checking of the calendar and re-organizing, we got it!
We were confident, co-operative and clever!
