We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

NEW LITERACY BLOCK FUN

This week the spotlight was on a new 'LITERACY BLOCK' activity.

Now that we know ALL the vowels and NEARLY all of the consonants, we can have fun being WORD DETECTIVES.

We SEARCH for MISSING letters.

This week we had to think about what sound the words began with, because the letters were MISSING from the
BEGINNING of words.

We were all ACE WORD
DETECTIVES
and we can't wait for our next case of
MISSING LETTERS!
If you have any ideas for our MISSING LETTERS activity, please email them to 1mgems@gmail.com . Our detectives love to have cases to work on!

GROWING PATTERNS

Today we explored GROWING patterns.

GROWING patterns do not repeat.

They GROW!

First we created our patterns. Some were GROWING, some looked like they were SHRINKING and some looked like they did both!

Then we took one part of our pattern away.

Others had to look closely at our pattern and work out the rule we had used to make our pattern.

Then they put back the missing part.

No-one was tricked.
WE WERE JUST ALL TOO CLEVER!

What ideas do you have for a GROWING pattern?
Make one at home. Draw it or now you can take a photo of it and email it to 1mgems@gmail.com

SPOTLIGHT WORK - THE LAST FOR THE WEEK!

Look how clever we are getting!

Our sentences are getting longer and more interesting.

We are now using the word 'and' to join ideas.

Instead of 'the' or 'a' we are using words like 'my'. It changes the whole meaning of the sentence.

We worked hard at learning this week's words. Some of us could even jumble up the letters, then glue them down in the right order!

We were 'Super Story Sequencers' too! This 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' activity also helped us start to learn the words for the days of the week.

1M, your work this week has been MAGIC!
