We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

ALL ABOUT 5

What do we have '5' of? We went on a search.

5 fingers

5 very pink toes

5 oranges eaten by the very hungry caterpillar

5 dots on a dice

our school bag has 5 compartments

and every flower on this bush has 5 petals

Where else do you see '5'? Hear '5'? Here are some clues to get you going.
How many points on a star? Who's someone in 1M with 5 syllables in their name?
Post a comment with your discoveries about 5.

Ben, you are sooooo clever. I love the way you read the posts and think of something clever to say or do. You are the 'Comment King'!

(Hope you folks don't think I'm a pest, but coincidentally I've just written a poem about the number five. You're the first to read it before it gets illustrated and posted on Inkless Tales. In fact, if anyone is inspired to illustrate it here on your own blog, please DO feel free.)

Since May the 5th, since I’m alive
My favorite number has been five.
Five fingers on my hand so neat
Five toes inside both sneakered feet.

Five days I sit in school each week
Five cafeteria lunches eat
Five milks I drink, and as for those
Tim jokes those five milks out my nose.

Five windows downstairs in my house
Five kittens chase their catnip mouse
Two brothers, mom and dad and me
Five members in my family.

Five’s my favorite. Can you tell?
I love no number quite as well.

Thanks for reading.

Thankyou for your poem about 5. Our favourite number is 5 too, because most of us are still 5 years old! We feel REALLY, REALLY, REALLY,REALLY, REALLY special that you sent your poem to us to read before anyone else!
We absolutely LOVE the poem. It's really going to help kids learn all about 5. We've started working on some pictures but we haven't come up with a good title yet. We'll keep you posted. From your new friends, the 1M Little Gems
