We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

KNOWING ALL ABOUT 'N' - WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE?

We do some fun activities to help us learn our letters and the sounds they make.
Sometimes the sounds are tricky.
We talk about what shape our mouth makes when we make the sound.
We think about where our tongue has to go.
Is it on the roof of our mouth? Is it touching your teeth?
Is it a voiced sound or are we pushing air out?
We worked out that when we make the sound of 'n', our mouths are open and our tongue is on the roof of our mouth.

We look at each other and practise making the sound.
Now we won't get confused with 'm'!

We also go on a letter hunt. We put on our special glasses and go looking for words that start with our focus sound.

We look
ALL around the room and write down any words we find.
We also search for the letter, too! We take a photo every time we find it. Look at the n's Sophia found.... on the number chart, the Word Wall Worm and on Naomi's name card.
WE LOVE GOING ON WORD AND LETTER HUNTS!!!

1M where else can you find n? What other words begin with n?
Take a photo, send in a comment. START HUNTING!

Thanks 1M. I enjoyed reading about the way you learn about letters. This is very different from how i learned this when i went to school. i think your way is much more fun and makes learning fun and easy to remember,

Naomi was very happy to see her name on the blog this week. i think it is exciting for each of the children to see themselves in photos or their name in the blog. The photo of the girls making the sounds of the letters was funny. looks like it is a fun class to be learning in.
