We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

STORYBOARDING SUCCESS

Today we started planning for the 'superhero' stories we are going to create in Comic Life.

Before we started, we looked at comic books and comic strips in the paper.
We saw how the story is set out in panels and it's often a 'conversation' between the characters.

We also looked at the storyboarding the big kids did at 'Kids Connect' and watched their finished 'comic life' movie.

Now we knew 'how' to storyboard. All we needed next was our story!

We collaborated with a partner on creating the pictures and the text.
Mrs M and Mrs R were 'blown away' by our clever planning.

Here's just a few of the exciting comics coming your way soon.
The adventures of SUPER GIRL - will she succeed in getting others to 'co-operate'?

Water Girl - when water's being wasted, it's Water Girl to the rescue!

Will Waterman stop the evil Flameman from encouraging others to play with fire?

We had so much fun but there's more to come!
Stay watching for our finished stories in Comic Life.

KOALA LOU and COMIC LIFE

We have been reading KOALA LOU, Mem Fox's beautiful story about LOVE.

In the story, Koala Lou doesn't think her mother loves her anymore because she no longer says
"Koala Lou, I DO LOVE YOU!"
So Koala Lou decides to enter the gumtree climbing event at the Bush Olympics. She thinks that if she wins her mother will love her and once again say..
"Koala Lou, I DO LOVE YOU!"
Reading about Koala Lou training for her event got us wondering.

What other events would be at the Bush Olympics?
What other animals would be competing?

In pairs we chose an Australian animal and thought about how it moved and behaved. Then we could imagine what event it might compete in.

Next we imagined what training the animal would need to do.

We drew five pictures of the training in Kids Pix.

Then we chose a template in Comic Life and placed our Kids PIx pictures into it.

Last, we imagined what the animal would be saying and added some speech bubbles.

Here is the Comic Life slide that Johanna and Tierney did.

Do you have any ideas for what animals and events could be at the Bush Olympics? Leave us a comment.
We'll try to put your ideas in Comic Life.
