We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

STORYBOARDING SUCCESS

Today we started planning for the 'superhero' stories we are going to create in Comic Life.

Before we started, we looked at comic books and comic strips in the paper.
We saw how the story is set out in panels and it's often a 'conversation' between the characters.

We also looked at the storyboarding the big kids did at 'Kids Connect' and watched their finished 'comic life' movie.

Now we knew 'how' to storyboard. All we needed next was our story!

We collaborated with a partner on creating the pictures and the text.
Mrs M and Mrs R were 'blown away' by our clever planning.

Here's just a few of the exciting comics coming your way soon.
The adventures of SUPER GIRL - will she succeed in getting others to 'co-operate'?

Water Girl - when water's being wasted, it's Water Girl to the rescue!

Will Waterman stop the evil Flameman from encouraging others to play with fire?

We had so much fun but there's more to come!
Stay watching for our finished stories in Comic Life.

'SURVEY SAYS'...OUR MATHS INVESTIGATIONS

Remember our post about A POLL NEEDS A...
Since then we have been
finding out about ourselves
as a class. We have been
ACTIVE
INVESTIGATORS.

After deciding on a question, we first had to GATHER the DATA.
We RECORDED the data using ticks or tally marks.
We discovered it was a good idea to write down names as well, so that we knew who we had asked.
But at this stage, it wasn't easy to see the RESULTS of our questioning. So.....
we had to be EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS and DISPLAY the DATA.

Some of us chose to DRAW a BAR GRAPH by hand and others chose to produce a BAR GRAPH on the computer by inserting a 'table' into a 'Word' document.

Now it was easy for us to see and INTERPRET the results of our surveys.

Our next step is to post about our learning on our own blogs.
You can access the results of Courtney's, Johanna's and Tierney's investigations by going to the sidebar, finding LABELS and then NUMERACY BLOCK.
All of our results will be posted by early next term, so don't forget to come back and check out the results!
