We are a class of Prep students, sharing all that's happening in our classroom. This blog was started by the first group of Gems, a Year One class back in 2007. We, the 2012 Gems are proud to continue on the conversation. You can read, watch and listen as we share our learning journey - a journey where we 'learn to blog' and 'blog to learn'. Please visit regularly to see what's new and join in the conversation - we'd love for you to be part of our learning.

OUR AMAZING NEWS!!

Today we have some amazing news to share... we are SOOOO excited we could BURST!

One of our favourite websites to visit is INKLESS TALES and late last week the editor of this website, Elizabeth Bushey, left a comment on OUR blog!
We thought we were very special when we read her lovely comment left on our DO YOU HAVE TO BE A TEACHER TO TEACH? post. Elizabeth agreed with us that anyone can be a teacher and reminded us that WE CAN DO ANYTHING because we CAN.... we just have to TRY.

We felt like V.I.P.'s because someone from the other side of the world had visited our blog. We looked at Elizabeth's website and realised she was a V.I.P. too- a very clever one at that!

Yesterday when we logged onto the blog, there was another comment from Elizabeth, this time on our POST ABOUT 5. When we read this comment, OUR JAWS DROPPED.... NO WORDS CAME OUT!!!

She'd sent us a poem about 5- and 'unpublished' poem. We couldn't believe that Elizabeth had chosen us to be the FIRST to see it.You can read it, too. CLICK HERE to go to our post ABOUT 5, then go down to the comments.

Now we have to come up with some ideas for a TITLE and some ILLUSTRATIONS to go with the poem. We've never worked with an AUTHOR before. We are EXCITED, AMAZED and PROUD!

We feel really blessed to have Elizabeth help us learn. So we wanted to do something special for her (with just a bit of help from Mrs M!)

HERE IT IS...

We have a new friend, Elizabeth
America is where she's at.
That's a long way
but she's a mouseclick away
WOW... imagine that!

She's a writer and illustrator of stories and poems
and great games and songs too.
We love her website Inkless Tales
There's so much to see, learn and do!
Elizabeth paid a visit to our blog
and left a comment you see.
She agreed with us- we ALL can teach
That's right- even you and me!
Now there's a poem about number 5
We were the first to see it.
Thankyou Elizabeth for choosing us-
we really can't believe it!
The poem we love, we think it's great
It really helps you learn
all about 5 and what it looks like
but now it is our turn.
We learnt from you, you showed us how
We are trying something new
You encouraged us to have a go....
So here's our poem, Elizabeth, to you!
THANKYOU!

We know Mrs M has emailed Elizabeth and there are some exciting things we can do together.... we just wish she lived closer!

There's no one else in our school that has had this happen to them.
WE THINK THIS IS THE BEST YEAR YET...AND IT'S ONLY JUST BEGUN!!!
HOPE YOU LIKE OUR POEM, ELIZABETH. :>)

WHAT WE CAN TEACH OTHERS

Last week we left comments about what we could teach each
other on our DO YOU HAVE TO BE A TEACHER TO TEACH? post.

We talked about how you could find someone to teach you how to do gymnastics or how to play soccer.

We knew a good place to start is the YELLOW PAGES and we thought it would be a good idea to make our own 1M YELLOW PAGES. Then it would be easy to know who could teach us what we wanted to learn!

We started by making a list of all the things that children in 1M could teach each other.

*Max can teach you how to draw Sponge Bob Square Pants.
*Courtney can teach you to do cartwheels and the splits.
*Sophia can teach you how to dig up rocks.
*Alastair
can teach you to jump high.
*Bryce can teach you how to walk and skip at the same time.

*Jarvis can teach you how to log on to our blog.
*Naomi can teach you how to rollerblade (Mrs Duffy wants to learn how to rollerblade!)
*Patrick can teach you to swim backstroke without a board
and stay between the lines when colouring in.
*Lauren can teach you how to make a bridge with their body.

*Kimmi can teach you to do cartwheels.
*Matthew can teach you to hop on one foot.
*Ben can teach you how to ride a two wheeler bike
and how to play golf.
*Johanna can also teach you how to do somersaults.
*Isabella can teach you to draw butterflies .
*Billee-Jane can teach you how to tie shoelaces and do handstands.
*Lachlan can teach you to draw boats, cars and computers.
*Jacob can teach you how to ride a bicycle and to build with wood.
*Daniel can teach you how to do jumping and spinning tricks and
also how to jump high on the trampoline.
*Harrison can teach you how to swim, especially butterfly and backstroke.
*Brooke can teach you how to ride a skateboard and how to do ballet.
*Tierney can teach you how to cook, especially spaghetti bolongaise and vegetables.
*Laura can teach you how to draw, in particular, angels.
*Flynn can teach you how to write hard words like 'said' and hard letters like Z.
*Callum can teach you to play basketball- how to shoot, dribble and to listen to your coach.
*Jack can teach you how to play the Spiderman game on Playstation and also how to build lots of things with Lego.

PARENTS/GRANDPARENTS...WHAT ABOUT YOU?
WE KNOW YOU'RE VERY CLEVER TOO!
WHAT COULD YOU TEACH US?
TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER IN A COMMENT.

OUR NEXT STEP IS FOR EACH OF US TO CREATE AN AD FOR OUR
1M YELLOW PAGES.
NOW WE HAVE OUR 'THINKING CAPS' ON.
WE'RE THINKING:
WHAT WILL OUR AD SAY?
WILL WE HAVE A PICTURE IN OUR AD?
ARE WE GOING TO GIVE OURSELVES A 'SPECIAL NAME'?
WHERE COULD WE LOOK FOR IDEAS?

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, 1M? SHARE YOUR IDEAS IN A COMMENT.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE A TEACHER TO TEACH?

Today EVERYONE wanted to post or comment to our blog. Look how long our 'sign- up' queues were!
We're glad we had Lauren's Mum and Mrs Duffy to help us.
Lauren's Mum helped us with our comments.
She didn't type for us today - we did the typing OURSELVES!
She taught us how to use the SPACEBAR to put in the spaces between the words.
We learnt how to hold down the SHIFT key when we need to type a CAPITAL letter.
Lauren's Mum also showed
us which key we needed to push if we wanted to use a FULLSTOP.

We took a long time to type, but Lauren's Mum was very patient. She was a great TEACHER.

Bryce, Laura, Johanna, Brooke and Ben worked with Mrs Duffy. They posted their stories. They were proud of themselves because THEY had taught Mrs Duffy how to post.
This got us thinking.... Do you have to be a 'TEACHER' to TEACH?
NO!!!!...we are ALL 'TEACHERS'.
WE had a big discussion about what WE could TEACH others.
Naomi and Kimi are EXPERTS at cartwheels. Jacob said he'd like to learn how to do them and he could TEACH someone how to ride a bike.
But what if you wanted to learn how to draw?... or tie your shoelaces?
Who would you go to?
You now have to think 1M....WHAT AM I GOOD AT? WHAT COULD I TEACH OTHERS HOW TO DO?
Post a comment to let us know how YOU can be a TEACHER.
Parents too.... WHAT COULD YOU TEACH US?

TODAY WAS COMMENT DAY!

We had V.I.P.S in our room again today...
we are VERY lucky!
This morning, Mrs B and Mrs P came in AGAIN to help us with our blog!

We signed up again to work with either Mrs B or Mrs P.

We decided that we wanted to leave comments today. Mrs B and Mrs P helped us read the posts and type our comments. We also looked at 1G's blog and left lots of comments there too!

This afternoon we had a V.I.P. from Brisbane Catholic Education visit us and talk to us about our blog.
We shared how we decide what goes on the blog.
Jack, Harrison, Jacob and Patrick knew
which buttons to click on to upload, size
and position a photo into a post.
Our visitor was VERY IMPRESSED!!

Sophia's VIP

My VIP is my piano teacher. She listens to me play. There are a couple of kids and she puts on music. She teaches me new things each time.
