GROWING WITH GROWING PATTERNS

Today our room was a 'patterning paradise'.
We had so much fun patterning, that we patterned for hours!
Mrs M couldn't stop us. We didn't even want to go out for Snack!

We were investigating GROWING patterns and we amazed Mrs M and even ourselves with what we discovered!
Can you work out the rule for each of these patterns?
Can you represent each pattern with a number pattern?
Can you apply the rule to tell what comes next?

Pattern 3:

Pattern 4: this one's tricky but if you apply the rule, you should be able to work out the starting number, even though you can't see all the blocks.

We kept this number pattern going all the way to 99 and we didn't have to keep applying the rule because we found a shortcut - a pattern in the pattern.

Hi Mrs M and 1mgems,
I have done a word wall words and I have made some good patterns.


The repeating pattern colour is abcde and the shape pattern is abccb.
The growing pattern is a growing, growing, shrinking pattern.



I had to teach my dad how to do the growing growing, shrinking pattern, I think he now understands.
