OUR BUSY TERM

We have had such a busy term.

We've learnt many new skills

and are doing things we never imagined we could.

We've all set up our own blog folios and are learning how to use them.

We've also learnt how to podcast!

So now we're ready for more amazing things in Term 4

but first we're taking a well earned break.

MORE GRAPHING FUN

Here are links to some great sites I found that

will help you display your data in a bar graph.

Here's the graph I created on this site after I entered in Tierney's data.
To save your graph just take a picture of your screen - press the 'Alt' key (beside spacebar)and the 'Print Screen' key ( top right of keyboard).
Then open up PowerPoint and paste it into a slide and save as a jpeg. Then you can upload it to your blog.

I created this graph with BJ's data at CREATE A GRAPH.

This site allows you to print or save. It also shows you some other types of graphs you can use to display your data.

HAVE A GO AT GATHERING SOME DATA AMONGST YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND USE ONE OF THESE SITES TO CREATE YOUR GRAPH.

And if you're feeling like a challenge, play this DATA PICKING game.

In this game you click on each person to gather data and add tally marks into a table. The word 'frequency' just means 'how many'.Then you choose the graph that represents your data. The tricky part is that it's not a BAR GRAPH, it's a PIE GRAPH. Want to find out what that is?.....Play the game!

'SURVEY SAYS'...OUR MATHS INVESTIGATIONS

Remember our post about A POLL NEEDS A...

Since then we have been

finding out about ourselves

as a class. We have been
ACTIVE

INVESTIGATORS.

After deciding on a question, we first had to GATHER the DATA.

We RECORDED the data using ticks or tally marks.

We discovered it was a good idea to write down names as well, so that we knew who we had asked.

But at this stage, it wasn't easy to see the RESULTS of our questioning. So.....

we had to be EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS and DISPLAY the DATA.

Some of us chose to DRAW a BAR GRAPH by hand and others chose to produce a BAR GRAPH on the computer by inserting a 'table' into a 'Word' document.

Now it was easy for us to see and INTERPRET the results of our surveys.

Our next step is to post about our learning on our own blogs.

COOL COMPANIONS

Tanya from Cool Companions came to our school today
to show us same Australian animals.

First we saw two REPTILES.
Wesley the shingle back lizard lives in a desert environment.
Did you know that the holes on the side of their heads are their ears?
The lace monitor lives in a rainforest.
They are grey to blend in with the colour of the tree trunk.

Next we met Jasmine. She was a Rufus Bettong. They belong to the kangaroo family and are MARSUPIALS. She was gorgeous!

Did you know they have sharp claws to dig with and they eat roots and tubers and can carry grass back to their nests in their tails!

Then we met Boris the black- headed python. Pythons an not venomous.

The next animal was a squirrel glider called Pixie. She was very cute. She had a

tiny the baby called Lola. Squirrel gliders are also MARSUPIALS and they live up in the trees. They were both scared.

Last we met Snappy Tom. He was a salt water crocodile and he
is 6 years old like most of us.

He will grow to be HUGE! Crocodiles are at the top of the foodchain.

They are the apex predator.

We got to pat all of the animals expect for the lace monitor and Pixie and Little Lola.

We loved getting up close with the animals.

It was really 'cool' having COOL COMPANIONS visit us.

KIDS CONNECT

Do you like my new look, 1M?

I created this photo in a program called FUNBOOTH.

It was a huge hit with the kids taking part in Kids Connect and it will be on our new laptops when we get them. Isn't it cool?

I worked with 11 very clever kids last Thursday and Friday. In pairs they created a Superhero to help fight an issue in Brisbane and created a comic strip to tell of their superhero's fight.

I had heaps of fun and Iearnt how to do lots of new things. I can't wait to show you a dvd of what the kids did tomorrow.

WANT TO KNOW HOW TO ADD LINKS?

Courtney was very busy today with Mrs M, creating a podcast that explains how to add a links list to your blog.

BIG CHANGES!!!!

If you go to our blogs and think you are in the wrong place...

you're not!

That's because many of our blogs have had a change of TEMPLATE!

The library was buzzing with 'oohs' and 'aahs' during our ICT time today.

Our Year 6 buddies were there to help us work on our blogs.

They showed us the new templates they had on their blogs

and we just had to have a new one too!

We were being DESIGNERS and CREATORS and COLLABORATORS as we worked on our blogs with our buddies with some of us even showing our buddies how to do things!!

Some of us were being SELF-DIRECTED LEARNERS by coming up with ideas for a post and putting the post up by ourselves. Have a look at Callum's 'Willy the Wimp' post and Patrick's patterning post.

Our buddies were amazed at what we could do!

A POLL NEEDS A ...

Having a 'poll' on our blogs is something we all want.
It's a great way of 'finding out' things, like what other people think or do or have. It gives you an idea of what most people who voted 'think'.


Before you can have a poll, you have to have a 'question'.
Because we are excited about our blogs, many of us want to know what visitors think of our blogs. That's a good question to start with but it got us thinking...
WHAT OTHER QUESTIONS COULD WE ASK?

Here's a list of the questions we have so far.

We have always had rules to keep us safe while blogging. We all have ownership of our class blog but Mrs M has done the posting for us or with us.

Now that we have our own blogs, we have to take more RESPONSIBILTY for what goes on our blog.

We have to THINK REALLY CAREFULLY before we post. There are lots of things we want to put on our blogs but we have to think...

"Is this appropriate?"

Here are the rules that we feel are really important to follow when blogging:

• NEVER use your last name
• NEVER write anyone else's last name or the school's name
• NEVER write any personal details like your address, phone number or the school's details or anyone else's details
• NEVER put up photos that show your face or anyone else's face.Ask permission to use a photo with someone else in it
• NEVER leave any nasty or silly comments or posts
• DON'T give out your password
• Only link to 'educational' sites
• ALWAYS have an adult check any sites you want to link to before you add them
• See Mrs M if you want to upload a videos. Any videos must be checked by Mrs M BEFORE they are uploaded.
• Be RESPONSIBLE when writing to your blog. Remember posts are meant to show what you have learnt and how.

WORKING ON OUR BLOGS

YEAH!!

WE FINALLY ALL HAVE OUR OWN BLOGS!!

Our Year 6 buddies have been working really hard to help us set up our folios.

Now our job is to start posting about our learning.

We are realising that at the moment it takes a

L O N G time to get up a post because we are still learning how to type and post, so we have to be REALLY PATIENT.

We love looking at each others' blogs and if we see something that we like on another blog, we ask the blog owner to TEACH us how to put it on our own.

Our current favourites are a 'poll' and a 'clock'.

THE 1M GEMS

FLOWERS FOR MRS M

Today Laura and Johanna gave Mrs M some flowers. They saw them on their way to the musicroom. It was for letting them have their own blog.

ART SHOW

On Friday and Saturday we had our school ART SHOW. It was the first time we have ever had an Art Show and it was fun.











Everyone in the school had a piece of art work displayed in the hall. We had some ceramic tiles we had made with our 'portrait ' on them.

When we came to see the art we got a sample bag and we could join in a workshop. Many of us painted a disc and all the discs are going to be glued on a BIG board to make a mural.

We can't wait to see it. It will be very colourful.
